Dr. Mushquash receives the Health Indspire award!
Dr. Christopher Mushquash’s work has real-world impacts that stretch beyond community boundaries, reshaping policies and paradigms. A professor in the Department of Psychology at Lakehead University, he is also a Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Mental Health and Addiction.
A meticulous, conscientious, and well-respected researcher, Christopher integrates traditional Indigenous knowledge into both his personal practice and his research, exploring sustainable ways of healing that also address the systemic problems Indigenous peoples, particularly Indigenous youth, continue to face in Canada.
His many publications serve as a strong foundation on which new policy is being built; he has delivered presentations to governments and served on major national and provincial health policy committees. He has been recognized nationally and internationally as a renowned expert and has supervised many undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students, teaching others to be similarly compassionate and knowledgeable helpers. As a healer, educator, researcher, and teacher, Christopher always places Indigenous wellness at the centre of all he does.
